Bought from here. It cost me the very reasonable sum of £2.89 + P&P.
I bought this Micro SD adaptor for my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro (Non-Retina). Originally, I was considering it because I only had a 128GB SSD which whilst being fast enough really didn’t provide enough storage and I kept having to shift content back and forth from my server. I’ve since upgraded to a 500GB SSD but still wanted a separate area for temporary content.
So far, I’m really happy with this little marvel. It doesn’t protrude much from the side of the MacBook as you can see from the following photos. In contrast, a normal Micro SD to SD adaptor sticks out so much that it has to be removed before transporting the computer to avoid it being damaged. This little beauty just enough sticks out for me to remove the adaptor using one of my nails.
According to the Amazon listing if you are using the Retina version of the MacBook Pro this adaptor will stick out further by roughly 3-5mm.
The adaptor works really well. It seems to make contact correctly and it works fast enough.
I now have an extra 128GB separate from my main SD to store stuff.
As for setting it up, it’s really easy. Just insert your Micro SD card into the adaptor and the adaptor into the side of the MacBook Pro. Make sure the gold contacts are facing down.
In terms of packaging, it wasn’t particularly beautiful or substantial but then it doesn’t really have to be. It survived the journey intact so I can’t really complain. I also received it within less than 48 hours even though the cost of P&P was 99p.
So far, I am really happy with my purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to add a Micro SD card to their older style MacBook Pro. It works great and is unobtrusive.
